Before marriage, pray. While we are yet single, we must pray, not only for our future spouses, but for God to prepare our hearts as well. Those we shall one day marry should indeed be covered in prayer, however, our hearts need tilling as well, as a farmer prepares his field.
Lord Jesus, I come before You today and pray for my future marriage. Please prepare me and grow me into the spouse my future partner needs. Please grow in me the fruit of godliness, prayerfulness, faithfulness, joyfulness, and goodness. Harvest the fruits of Your Spirit in my heart so that my future spouse has a soft place to fall.
Love is patient, love is kind, and love keeps no record of wrongs. God, help me cultivate the soil of my heart in such a way that my love resembles Your love, deep, true, and forever unfailing.

Let us ask God to prepare the way in our hearts for the one He has set aside for us.
