Arguments in relationships usually begin over a point of pride. Someone makes a comment, the other is offended, and the fight is on. Sometimes with two passionate people, arguments will be inevitable. However, God has called us to walk in humility. How different might our relationships look if we prayed to let the offense go?
Lord Jesus, I ask to have a tender heart for my partner. Help me understand their point of view in a true and compassionate way. Give me eyes to see how I’ve hurt and offended them, and allow me the grace to ask forgiveness. Instead of arguing, may I be quick to forgive as well. Instead of fighting to prove my point, help me turn the other cheek. I want to love my partner as Christ and model this as best I can. How might Jesus sacrifice for them and give Himself up for them? Help me do the same.
When both partners are committed to loving each other as Jesus loved, forgiveness will naturally flow.
