Oh That You Would Bless Me And Enlarge My Territory

Oh that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.

1 Chronicles 4:10

Praying these words, Jabez asked for a simple expression of God’s grace- more land. Some translations say larger borders. What might a similar prayer look like for us? Perhaps a request for broader horizons or a wider circle of people to interact with.

And like Jabez, we must not forget that it is according to God’s grace that we ask and receive His blessings. And we must be mindful to seek not just the blessings of God, but His presence too, remaining with us and guarding our hearts against temptation. For it is the hand of God alone that both gives and sustains.
