Show me your ways,
Lord, teach me your paths.
As David pleads to God to keep him from defeat at the hands of his enemies, he asks the Lord not just for protection, but for direction. He starts by declaring his trust and his hope in the Lord, then asks the Lord to show him His ways. Trust is the means by which we put our hope into action.
And just as David recognizes the danger ahead, we also find that life is full of risks and unforeseen situations. And like David, we are wise to recognize that our God sees and knows infinitely more than we possibly can, and will direct us better than we can direct ourselves. Because He is holy and all-knowing, His way is righteous and His path is sure. And because of His great love for us, we have the assurance that when we ask Him to show us His ways, He will answer.
