Moment of Gratitude: Freedom

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free,” Paul writes to the Galatians. That sounds like great news, but what does it mean? In western culture, we think of freedom as personal autonomy and doing as we please. But the spiritual freedom that we find in Christ is so much greater than our cultural concept of freedom.

In Christ, we are free to experience the fullness of his grace. Before we knew Jesus, we lived in futile pursuit of righteousness, trying by our own merits to earn God’s favor. We were helplessly stuck in our sin. But now, thanks to Jesus’ sacrifice, we are forgiven and freed from the impossible task of earning salvation.

So let’s live in God’s grace with gratitude, and allow the power of the Holy Spirit to guide us in righteousness. For we have been freed from the burden of chasing perfection by our own power.
