The psalmist sings ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble’ (Psalm 46:1). There is no shortage of danger in the world. We don’t have to search long to find news reports of violence and calamity. Some of us don’t need to look beyond our own backyards.
Yet whether the world’s dangers are imminent or far off, we can be thankful that God is in our midst, and that He hears our prayers. For as long as we live in this fallen world, we will always need a refuge, and God promises to be our mighty fortress.
We may never know all of the times when He has intervened to protect us before we even realized that danger was near. Not even a sparrow falls without His watchful eye seeing it. And we can give thanks, knowing that God is faithfully watching over our situation, too.
